Mu2e: a High-Sensitivity Search for Charged Lepton Flavor Violation

Abstract:

Mu2e experiment at Fermilab will search for violation of Lepton Flavor Conservation in the process of coherent conversion of muons to electrons in the field of a nucleus. Observation of such process would be a clear signal of new physics. Mu2e aims at an unprecedented sensitivity of 2e-17 for the relative conversion rate, which is equivalent to indirectly probing the energy scales of up to 10,000 TeV. I will discuss the history of LFV searches, design of the Mu2e apparatus, and the current status of the project.
